Glynwood is a 225-acre working farm in Cold Spring, New York, about an hour and fifteen minutes from Manhattan by car or a short drive from the Cold Spring Metro-North station. The property has been a farm since the 18th century and has a national reputation in the sustainable agriculture world. I've shot here and the farm context gives it a feel that's different from estates or converted barns. The land is active. There are pastures, orchards, and livestock. Your wedding happens on a place that's doing something beyond hosting events.

The main event spaces are the Perkins House and the surrounding grounds. The Perkins House is a 1920s fieldstone building with a dining room, living room, library, and study on the first floor. It seats around 200 for a reception and has the architecture of a private estate. The ceilings, the stone, the window proportions are all original. The building photographs well because it has real materials and real age.

Ceremonies happen on the farm grounds, typically in the area near the orchards with pastures rising in the background and mountain views beyond. The setting has layers: apple trees in the foreground, open fields in the middle distance, and the ridgeline behind. That depth matters for wide ceremony shots.

The property also has a 150-year-old red barn, a private lakeside boathouse, and three guest houses with 19 rooms sleeping up to 44 guests. The Perkins House itself accounts for 10 of those rooms with space for 22. The other guest houses are scattered across the property. The boathouse on the lake is available for the weekend, and couples use it for quiet moments or morning-after sessions.

Wedding rentals at Glynwood include the guest houses, event spaces, grounds, boathouse access, and a farm tour for guests. The farm tour is a detail that sets the tone. Your guests walk the property, see the animals, and understand where the food comes from before they sit down to eat. It connects the place to the meal.

Catering is not in-house. Couples work with approved caterers. The farm's reputation in the food world means the caterers who work here tend to take the sourcing seriously. Many use ingredients from Glynwood's own farm or nearby producers.

Glynwood books far in advance. As of now, 2025 and 2026 are fully booked and 2027 is open. If this venue interests you, inquire early.

The Hudson Valley has farm venues, but most are farms that became event spaces. Glynwood is a farm that happens to host events. The distinction shows in the property. If you're considering Glynwood and want to talk through the photography, get in touch.

A Photographer's Perspective

The orchard and pasture ceremony area is where Glynwood stands out for photography. The apple trees create a natural canopy without being dense, so the light filters through in a way that's even and workable. Behind the ceremony, the pastures slope upward and the mountain ridge provides a horizon line. I use that layered depth for wide shots during the processional and recessional.

The Perkins House interior has strong window light on the first floor. The dining room and library have stone walls and original woodwork that provide texture in images without needing decoration. During the reception, the room is bright enough in the afternoon for natural-light coverage. After dark, the ceiling height and stone surfaces bounce flash cleanly.

The red barn works for cocktail hour or smaller gatherings. It's darker than the Perkins House, so I adjust my approach. The exposed beams and aged wood give me strong backgrounds for detail shots and candid work. The contrast between the barn and the estate house adds variety to the gallery.

The boathouse and lake are where I take couples for portraits when the timeline allows. The water provides a flat foreground that reflects the sky and surrounding trees. Morning light on the lake is best. If the couple is staying on-site the night before, a sunrise session at the boathouse produces images you won't get anywhere else on the property.

Getting-ready coverage works best in the Perkins House rooms. The guest rooms have consistent window light and enough space for a bridal party. The other guest houses are smaller and darker, so I prioritize the main house for prep shots.

The farm tour that happens before the wedding is worth photographing. Guests walking through the pastures, reacting to the animals, getting oriented on the property. Those images add context to the gallery that standard venue shots don't provide.

Orchard and Pasture Ceremony Area

Apple trees with pastures and mountain views beyond. Filtered light through the canopy. Layered depth for wide ceremony shots. Afternoon light works best.

Perkins House Interior

1920s fieldstone estate with dining room, library, and living room. Strong window light, stone walls, original woodwork. Works for reception coverage and indoor portraits.

Red Barn

150-year-old barn with exposed beams and aged wood. Darker interior, good for cocktail hour coverage and detail shots. The texture reads well on camera.

Lakeside Boathouse

Private boathouse on the lake. Reflections for couple portraits. Morning light is best. Quiet, removed from the main event areas.

Farm Grounds and Pastures

Open fields with livestock and working farm elements. Works for group shots and wide landscape portraits. Afternoon golden hour light across the fields.

Planning Tips

Book early. Glynwood sells out years in advance. As of 2026, the 2025 and 2026 calendars are full and 2027 is the first available season. If this property interests you, start the inquiry process as soon as you have a general date range in mind.

The 19 guest rooms across three houses sleep 44 people. That covers the wedding party and immediate family for most weddings. Guests beyond that capacity will need off-site lodging. Cold Spring has inns and bed-and-breakfasts within a 10-minute drive. Beacon is 15 minutes away with more hotel options. Arrange shuttles for guests not staying on the property.

Catering is through approved external caterers, not in-house. Start the catering conversation early because the caterers who know the property are often booked on the same popular weekends. Many source ingredients from Glynwood's own farm or nearby producers, which aligns with the venue's identity.

The farm tour for guests is included in the wedding rental. Schedule it for Friday evening or Saturday before the ceremony. It sets the tone for the weekend and gives guests context for the property. From a photography standpoint, I recommend including it in the timeline because those candid moments on the farm add something to the gallery.

For photography, schedule the ceremony for mid-to-late afternoon. The orchard area gets the most workable light when the sun is lower. Summer ceremonies work between 4:30 and 5:30pm. Fall ceremonies can start earlier. The mountain ridge behind the ceremony site catches the last light of the day, so timing matters for the backdrop.

Good to Know

Glynwood — FAQs.

How much does it cost to have a wedding at Glynwood?

Glynwood pricing is not publicly listed. Costs vary based on guest count, season, and event configuration. Wedding rentals include the guest houses, event spaces, grounds, boathouse, and a farm tour. Contact Glynwood Events through their website at glynwoodevents.org for a current pricing packet.

How many guests can Glynwood accommodate?

Glynwood accommodates up to 200 guests for a wedding. The Perkins House handles the reception. Outdoor ceremony areas on the farm grounds handle the full guest count. On-site lodging is available for up to 44 overnight guests across 19 rooms in three guest houses.

Does Glynwood have on-site accommodations?

Yes. Glynwood has 19 guest rooms across three guest houses, sleeping up to 44 people. The Perkins House has 10 rooms for 22 guests. The remaining rooms are in two additional guest houses on the property. A private lakeside boathouse is also available. Additional guests can stay in Cold Spring or Beacon, both within 15 minutes.

What happens if it rains at Glynwood?

The Perkins House provides indoor space for both ceremony and reception. The 1920s estate house has enough room for the full guest count inside. The stone interior and window light photograph well, so rain doesn't diminish the visual quality. I've shot indoor events at Glynwood and the building holds up.

What is the best time of year to get married at Glynwood?

Late September through mid-October brings fall foliage across the 225-acre farm and comfortable outdoor temperatures. The apple orchards and pastures change color, and the mountain views gain depth. Summer offers the longest outdoor light and the farm is at peak production. Spring is green but can be muddy on the farm paths. From a photography standpoint, early October is when this property looks its best.

Is Glynwood a working farm?

Yes. Glynwood is a nationally recognized working farm focused on sustainable agriculture. The farm has active livestock, orchards, and crop production. Wedding rentals include a farm tour for guests. The agricultural identity is central to the property, and it shows in the landscape, the food sourcing, and the overall feel of the weekend.
